The Lake Oswego Jeff Galloway Run/Walk Training Program can help you do it. Jeff’s training program is designed to help average people of all skill levels and ages complete a 5K, 10K, half- or full-marathon. Even the most out of shape and inactive individuals can complete one at the end of the training period by adhering to Jeff’s run/walk approach to training. This approach advocates establishing a run/walk ratio based upon a runner’s predicted pace per mile that will enable him/her to go the distance while remaining healthy and injury free.
We have 4 training cycles per year, roughly in sync with the normal calendar. (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sept, Oct-Dec) You can join at any time, so do not be discouraged if you miss a start date! We utilize routes that have a short, medium, and long option almost every Saturday. (sometimes there is no long route) We've got runners of all ability levels, walkers to half-marathon-per-month types. Regular pace groups are 11 min/mile, 14 min/mile, and walkers. If needed, we can have pace groups as fast as 7 min/mile for the long run.
Features of the program include:
Local, experienced runners Mikel Smith and Lauren Ludwig to coach you through the process Group support structure for weekly training and an online community Graduated race distances, beginners all the way up to Marathon training Set training schedule (Saturday mornings, 8:30AM) Expert advice on running techniques, gear, nutrition, and injury prevention Pace Group Leader opportunities for experienced runners
A “Getting Started” running program is offered to help new runners build up the three-mile run/walk endurance necessary to begin the longer training programs. This program culminates with a 5K race.
For those able to complete at least 3 miles already, there is a 5K/10K training program to improve your time, endurance, and overall health. The program will culminates with a 5K or 10K race.
In addition to these beginner programs, most of our runners and walkers will eventually move up to the half-marathon or full marathon for the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing one of those tough distances. We target 2-3 long races per year for the group and have a few runners that do more, so there are lot's of options. |
